Diamond / CBN - Resin bonded - Dressing of resin bonded diamond grinding wheels - Dressing with silicon carbide wheels
Basic rules:
It must be stated emphatically: to date there are no simple solutions tor dressing resin bonded diamond grinding wheels efficiently. The fact is that there are no harder materials than diamond, and, therefore, the material tor dressing is the same as the material to be dressed. Hence it becomes easy to understand the consequences in regards to the dressing toollife. The following are anumber of methods that are used today tor dressing resin diamond grinding wheels. To dress a straight wheel face does not otter too many difficulties as this can be done with a vitrified silicon carbide (SiC) or micro-crystalline ceramic wheel.
Dressing with silicon carbide wheels
The following dressing parameters are recommended:
Surface speed of SiC wheel vc: 18-25 m/s (3,600-5,000 sfpm)
Surface speed of diamond wheel vc: 5-15 m/s (1,000 - 3,000 sfpm)
Depth of cut per pass ad: 0.005 - 0.01 mm (o.0002-0.0004 in.)

The above method can be used in high volume production environments. The wheels are, however, dressed "off-machine" on special purpose dressing machines. The CNC control  the profile dressing machine is interfaced with an optical profile projector. The profile is enlarged on the screen of the profile projector and the profiling takes place in automated cycles.
