Vd = ns * bd / Ud
bd = effective width in mm ns = grinding wheel rpm Ud = overlap ratio Vd = dressing feed velocity in mm/min
Practical experience has shown the folling values of overlap ratio Ud to be a useful guidelin: |
| Roughing: |
2 - 3 |
| Standard grinding: |
3 - 4 |
| Finishing: |
4 - 6 |
| Fine finishing: |
6 - 8 | |
| Attention! The dressing traverse feed rate should be at least 500 to 700 mm/min (20 to 28 inch/min)
Rule of thumb: Traverse dressing feed rate Vd:
if bd < 3 mm vd = (ns * bd) / 4 = mm/min
if bd > 3 mm vd = (ns * bd * 0.35) / 4 = mm/min
ns = wheel rpm |

| Determination of MCD cross-section and number of MCD logs:
Cross-section : MCD 0.6 x 0.6 mm for grit size 91 and finer MCD 0.8 x 0.8 mm for grit size 126 and coarser
Number of MCD logs: Wheel diameter: up to 100 mm = 2 MCDs up to 500 mm = 3 MCDs Traverse feed rate:
Vd = (ns * cross-section bd) / 4 (Ud)
(standard grinding Ud = 4)

| Speed ratio qd (vR/vc): Synchronous 0.8 Asynchronous -0.5 to -0.8
Relative dressing direction: Synchronous = high metal removal rates Asynchronous = fine surface finish
Depth of cut ad per pass: 0.005 to max. 0.01 mm (0.0002 to 0.0004 inch)
Traverse dressing feed rate Vd: 150 to 200 mm/min (6 to 8 inch/min) (traverse feed is dependent on surface speed; 0.005-0.02 mm (0.0002-0.0008 inch) per wheel revolution)
