Peripheral speed (surface speed)
NEVER EXCEED THE MAX. PERIPHERAL SPEED (vc or rpm) AS STATED BY THE GRINDING WHEEL MANUFACTURER.
In order to use CBN's full potential, peripheral speeds should be at least 35 m/s (7,000 sfpm). More idially, the surface speeds should range between 50 and 80 m/s (10,000-16,000 sfpm). Higher speeds such as 120 to 140 m/s (24,000 to 28,000 sfpm) allow very high material removal very rigid machine tool designs, high-performance cooling and filtering systems, oil-mist extractors and many more substantial investments. Diamond grinding wheels, on the other hand, require surface speeds between 20 and 28 m/s (4,000 and 5,000 sfpm). |
