Difference between dressing and conditioning Dressing gives the resin bonded grinding wheel its geometrical accuracy and makes it run true. Conditioning opens up the grinding wheel, exposing the abrasive grit by clearing away bond material from around the cutting edges. Vitrified grinding wheels do not require conditioning as the dressing operation includes the conditioning. This is not the case, however, for resin bonded wheels which must be "sticked" with a soft aluminium oxide stick to expose the cutting edges. |
| "Sticking" by hand should be limited to wheels smaller than Ø 150 mm (< Ø 6 inches). Prior to "sticking", the aluminium oxide stick should be soaked in grinding fluid. If possible, some grinding fluid should drip onto the stick during the "sticking process". |
| For wheels Ø 150 mm (Ø 6 inch) and larger, "sticking" by hand is not advisable for safety reasons. The aluminium stick should be fixed in place by a vice or a similar fixture. Use an ample supply of grinding fluid during the conditioning process to flush the wheel free of debris. |
